Horizon

Horizon Newsletter : December 2023

I have been one very sorry and poorly Head of Horizon and have missed a chunk of this term. However, I am absolutely brimming with pride at how wonderfully Horizon have performed!

We have had wins in Drama, Debate, Dance and Maths house events and have had excellent numbers braving the cold and dark to represent Horizon.

We are still narrowly missing out on that lucrative number one spot, but we are rapidly chasing Voyager and I’m confident our kindness and commitment will carry us through to first place.

In addition to our magnificent attendance at house events our house continues to astound in collecting house cup points in their lessons.

I put the call out at the start of term for fundraising ideas and been swamped with ideas for charity events (some with an emphasis on teacher humiliation). It’s thrilling to see our older years take on a leadership role and start to plan these events and any more volunteers and ideas are greatly appreciated.

12-12-2023 : Horizon Newsletter : September 2023

What a wonderous start to Horizon’s year! For those that don’t know me, I’m Mr Greenaway and I’m the proud new head of horizon. I am looking to see Horizon as the most caring, kind, compassionate and competitive house inside the yellow army.

I’ve already seen plenty of evidence of just that. Everywhere around school I’ve seen our students offering help where it is needed and support for our newest members. The year 7s in particular are a tornado of kindness and are absolutely hoovering up house cup points.

Year 11 braved the heat and got our house cup campaign off to a tremendous start, our amazing students turned up in numbers and secured the most points in the house football event. Horizon secured second place in 2023 and from what I can see, we are definitely going to be challenging for the big prize this year.

How to get involved

I hope to see all our students following year 11’s example and coming along to future events:

KS3 Dance (5.10.23)

13-Oct

KS3 Art

20-Oct

08-07-2022 : Horizon Update

And we reach the end of the first full school year in what feels like forever. I have been so proud of every single student in Horizon for banding together and embodying the spirit of so many of our cornerstones throughout the year, and especially in the last term. It felt by Christmas that Horizon had been cut adrift at the bottom of the House Cup standings, but I never lost faith in this wonderful group of young people. If you have read any of these newsletter updates, you'll know I have said the comeback is on about five or six times, and Horizon are proving me right - in the last 4 weeks we have earned more House Cup Points than two of the other Houses combined!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to be at school for Sports Day, but I've had a number of teachers tell me how impressed they were with the effort of Horizon students, with many students leaving nothing on the table and trying their absolute best, especially in the morning where I'm told we were performing exceptionally well!

Regardless of where we end up finishing this year, every person in Horizon can look back proudly with how we've done and I can't wait to see what challenges we can overcome next year as we storm to the title!
