Brighton Hill Community School is experiencing rapid, unprecedented growth which has seen the school swell from 502 students in January 2017 to to over 1,280 in 2024. As a result of this, we are recruiting top quality staff who are willing to join our vision to become the beacon school of the local area and beyond.

Teacher of Maths

Due to rapidly increasing student numbers, we are seeking an innovative, highly effective and inspirational full time Teacher of Maths. A recruitment allowance will be considered for an appropriately experienced teacher who has the right skills and attributes. We will consider, immediate and September 2025 start dates for suitable candidates.

Lead Examinations Invigilator

£15.44 per hour

(£13.46 per hour plus a supplement of 14% to recompense your entitlement to receive paid statutory annual leave)

We are seeking to appoint an individual with the qualities and skills necessary to undertake the role of Lead Examinations Invigilator.

The individual must have previous Lead Invigilator experience for this role.

The postholder will be expected to be available for the exam periods as stated by the Examinations Officer at the beginning of each academic term.

  • To co-ordinate with the examination team to help with the organisation and management of Invigilator timetables.
  • Manage and direct a team of invigilators under the guidance of the Examinations Officer and Assistant Examinations Officer.
  • Train invigilators on procedures and equipment used in exams.
  • Be fully conversant with the published Examination instructions and regulations.
  • Take papers and materials to the examination venue.
  • Distribute student place names and numbers on desks as per the printed plan.
  • Bring students into venue - orderly and silently.
  • Ensure students are seated silently and in the correct seat before opening papers.
  • Read instructions and appropriate notices and erratum/addendums.
  • Record absentees with the support of the invigilation team.
  • Distribute papers and materials to the student desks.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality.
  • Move around the students silently and observing them closely.
  • Ensure no inappropriate items are brought into examinations venue.
  • Report any suspected malpractice in accordance with JCQ examination regulations.
  • Respond to student requests appropriately.
  • Ensure invigilators do not help candidates in any way.
  • Ensure students are not disturbed or disturbing.
  • Collect papers in order and other materials at end of examinations.
  • Dismiss students silently and in an orderly manner.
  • Tidy the venue.
  • Remove candidate cards from the table, return to box and return to EO.
  • Place scripts in alphabetical order in the awarding bodies plastic envelope.
  • Collect blue security wallets from additional rooms and place the scripts into the AO envelope in alphabetical order.
  • Maintain the integrity of the examination at all times.

Additional

  • To know the action to be taken in the event of an emergency such as fire alarm.
  • To assist in the promotion of the good name of the school within the local community
  • Ensuring there is a good supply of exam stationery and equipment for the season and order as required
  • Undertake online Invigilator training at the start of each academic year.
  • Must be available to work in the examination periods throughout the academic year to support all examinations and assessments. (September for internal year 7 assessments, January, March-April for internal PPEs and May – June for GCSEs plus support Results day in August)
  • Any other duties requested by the Examinations Officer commensurate with the level of the post.

You will be responsible for the smooth, secure running of allocated exam sessions, working under the direction of the Examinations Officer. Duties will include timing of exams, distribution and collection of exam papers, assisting students with additional needs and ensuring Examination Board Regulations are adhered to at all times.

Good communication skills, an observant eye and attention to detail are essential. You will need to have a calm nature, and work effectively in a busy environment.

Faculty Learning Support

Salary: £18,758 - £19,421 (FTE £23,968 - £24,816)

Role Purpose

  • To support SEND students in the classroom / faculty they are allocated to, to access and support learning and make expected progress.
  • To complement and support the professional work of the Teachers in their faculty to support task learning activities.
  • To support the progress of SEND students within the faculty and providing best practice resources and sharing ideas.
  • To liaise with teacher within the allocated faculty with regards to curriculum and be prepared to support tasks and activities. This could include some pre-learning, responsive support in the classroom and additional interventions.
  • The role includes dealing with individual pupils and/or groups with complex learning needs.

Essential

  • An ability to establish positive and effective working relationships with students and colleagues.
  • The capacity to develop an in-depth understanding of student's needs, in order to support them with effective approaches to learning and development.
  • Commitment to participate fully in all areas of school life.
  • Commitment to undertake additional training to support student needs.
  • Willingness and engagement with educational research.
  • An ability to adapt practise and contribute towards the extensive SEND vision.

Desirable but not essential

  • Experience of working within an educational setting; practice of leading small group and 1:1 intervention sessions.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant.
  • We currently have gaps in support within our Expressive and Performance Arts, Creative Industries and Digi Tech faculties, so if you have a passion for the Arts or Technology based subjects, we would love to have you join these supportive and innovative faculties.

Working hours are 32.75 per week, Monday – Friday during term time (half days will be considered).
