Our Vision
Our vision is to nurture, grow and develop students’ interest in Health and Social Care, providing them with a strong foundation of vocational knowledge alongside theory and practical application whilst instilling key care values necessary for the sector. The Health and Social Care curriculum builds on knowledge and skills taught in other subjects, allowing students to use previous knowledge to make fresh connections in a vocational environment
Key Stage 4
BTEC Health and Social Care is designed for learners who are interested in Health and Social Care and want a vocational introduction to this sector. In component one, learners will explore how individuals develop physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually over time. Component one also includes the investigation of how various factors, events and choices impact individuals’ growth and development. In this component, students will also discover how people adapt to life events and cope with making changes.
Throughout component two learners will investigate how the Health and Social Care sector works and the care values that lie at the core of it. For example, students will learn which health and social care services are available and they will identify why people might need to use these services. Learners will explore who’s involved in providing these services and what might stop people from accessing the services they need. Overall, component two looks at the care values the sector has, to make sure people get the care and protection they need.
Component three is where learners will pull together all they have learned and apply their knowledge in a ‘real life’ scenario. They will explore what ‘being healthy’ means to different people and the different factors that might influence a person’s health and wellbeing. Learners will assess an individual’s health using their knowledge and use this to create a health and well-being improvement plan which includes targets and recommendations of support services available.
